Barr-Nunn Celebrates Three Years of Practical Miles
Granger, IA – May, 2009
Barr-Nunn Transportation, Inc. is proud to celebrate 3 years of Practical Mileage pay to their company drivers and owner operators. In May of 2006 Barr-Nunn switched to paying their drivers based on practical miles. This pay system is in contrast to the industry standard miles referred to as household goods miles. Practical mileage accounts for logical alternate routing, such as taking an interstate bypass around a city rather than driving right through the city-center. As a general rule drivers are paid an average of five percent more miles by practical routing.
“What we are most proud of is that our drivers and owner-operators helped us make the decision to pay practical miles. Our Driver Advisory Council was a big part of this decision, which resulted in the largest pay raise in Barr-Nunn history,” said Jay Shiek, Director of Operations for Barr-Nunn. “It was the right thing to do three years ago and it remains the right thing to do today. Drivers should be paid for the miles they are actually driving.”
