Main Job Responsibilities
- LEVEL #1 is a person who is entry level, jobs such as:
- Cleaning trucks
- Operate hand tools safety
- Perform tire services
- Clean shop
- LEVEL #2
- Perform all level 1 skills
- Perform new tractor and trailer preps
- Perform sale tractor and trailer preps
- Replace tires
- Perform truck and trailer alignments
- Replace brakes and related parts
- Troubleshoot and repair ABS systems
- Replace wheel seals and or bearings
- Replace pinion seals and nuts
- Inspect and repair steering components
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and lighting problems
- Replace radiators and troubleshoot heating systems
- Troubleshoot and repair charging systems
- Repair and adjust trailer doors and seals
- LEVEL #3
- Perform all level 2 skills
- Obtain a class A CDL
- Inspect a replace king pins
- Rebuild steer sector on steering system
- Rebuild and adjust fifth wheels
- Become proficient with cutting touch and be able to weld: Aluminum and steel
- Replace and adjust clutch
- Replace transmissions and rear ends
- Replace turbo and manifolds
- Replace water pump
- Program engine computers
- Rebuild engine fans
- Complete annual inspections on trucks and trailers
- Become proficient with computer systems
- Train other Technicians
- MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Repairs and maintain diesel and gasoline industrial trucks and trailers, follow manuals, use hand tools, power tools, knowledge of electrical, power transmission, brake and other class 8 systems: Read job orders and observe and listen to truck in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures. Install new ignition systems, align front wheels, changes or recharge batteries, using mechanic's hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts and hoists. Examine protective guards, loose bolts and specified safety devices on trucks and makes adjustments using hand tools. Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired truck to verify conformance to specifications. May fabricate special lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two year degree in Diesel Mechanics preferred, but not necessary
- 2 years truck maintenance preferred, but not necessary

Physical Requirements
- Work 8 hours per day 5 days per week with occasional overtime
- Stand and walk on concrete surface constantly
- Bend at knees frequently
- Crouch and crawl on hands and knees frequently
- Continuous use of hand tools with frequent pinching, grasping, twisting and bending
- Frequent use of air-impact wrench: weight 33 pounds
- Frequent work above shoulder level with tools and to manipulate parts
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on frequent basis and 100 pounds to waist height on occasional basis. Demonstrate proper use of mechanical lift aids is required.
- Must be able to assist other in lifting or maneuvering parts up to 100 pounds on a rare occasion.
- Must be able to push/pull 100 pounds/force on an occasional basis
- Must be able to push/pull 20 pounds/force on frequent basis
- Must be able to climb ladders safety when working on tractor-trailer
- Must be able to walk up and down 9 steps on an occasional basis
- Must be able to lift and operate a 22-pound sledge hammer on occasional basis
- Must be able to maintain balance when standing at heights on a frequent basis
- Must be able to safely drive tractor-trailer in and out of shop area
- Must be able to communicate with drivers and shop foreman
- Must be able to compress clutch pedal with approximately 70 pounds of push force
- Must be able to climb in and out of tractor using various configurations of steps and handholds on a frequent basis
- Must be able to reach away from body on continuous basis to use tools and manipulate parts
